We made it about 16 km in and was informed by Hank McGregor surfing the other way that it was over. Surfed back in really big waves with Greg Barton for a bit, Deon and Oscar Chalupsky whisled to get my attention (as I was in a Think), Oscar tore up to me in his Epic to say great surfing and you don’t even need to paddle! He was zig zagging and just ripping by. I was paddling and surfing the best I could!The top guys are animals off the start and into crazy waves.
Deon and Wes were solid some distance behind the lead group. Ian had wrist issues. Bob was strong. Wes and Deon might just be addicted to surfing big waves. Great attitudes and they both were in for the under 23 prize.
