Hi,

NSAIDS also impact renal function and should be used with great caution in my opinion (I am an anesthesiologist) in instances where dehydration and might be an issue (like during endurance sports). In endurance sports, the break down products of muscle (called myoglobin)are also toxic to the kidneys. The 3 things together- dehydration, myoglobinuria and NSAIDs could be very bad for some.

Especially in those of us who now find themselves in the "Masters" category.

In addition NSAIDS have an effect on the stomach and should be used with foods to avoid ulcers and gastric bleeding.

Regards,

Craig

HI,

After the US champs this week, and following this thread, it would be great to have a Canadian championship somewhere here either the week before or after the US event. This could likely attract some of the Big names in the sport- if you are going to travel for 36hours from SA or Oz, it makes sense to stick around for an extra week and pick up another race.

This in turn might be the excitement our sport needs to generate more interest and take it to the next level.

All the venues mentioned would be great, I think however that as a first event, a good consistent downwind run is essential as part of the course.

All that is needed is for all the people on this thread to get together, pool our resources and enthusiasm and work out how to run this thing.

The other "event" I think might be quite interesting is a multi day race from Nanaimo to Victoria. Or Sydney to Victoria (single day), Sooke to Victoria (downwind leg). ALthough in these waters, safety and organization might be a slightly bigger issue than in SA where these kinds of races are quite common (the PE to EL, Scottburgh to Brighton and Cape point challenge to name a few).

It was a good day's racing.
I was the one that narrowly almost got taken out by the sail boat - really close. The lead boat came to my rescue to shoo the sail boat away - and this is when I thought great now is my time to get on a decent wave. The lead boat however was determined to get back to the front fast and give Ian back his wave! He went wide and tore up front which left us with some side wash only.
I thought about Ian's surfing and thought well if any one else was in his position they would do the same. The culprit here is the lead boat. While it is great for them to help out and offer their time they need to use common sense and either ride to the side or keep further up ahead.
All in all it was a fun race.
Watch out for Craig guys - he is hungry and will claw his way back to contention within the next year or two - can't wait to ride his wave!
